  • Assist with errands as needed

  • Purchase clothing or home goods as needed
  • Monitor expirations of items in the home (i.e. medications, foods, vitamins, etc)
  • Ensure (parakeet) is fed and always has fresh water

Desired Characteristics & Qualifications:

This is an opportunity to care for a famous historic estate and ensure it continues for future generations . This is a formal household and the position is structured to be full time with consideration to the seasonal flow of tasks. The property is 7 acres of buildings, lawns and gardens and is oceanfront.

Responsibilities include:

  • Minor repairs and the maintenance of the home
  • Grounds maintenance: pruning/trimming trees, shrubs & hedges; cutting grass; blowing; raking; etc. including fall leaf removal
  • Meeting with and assisting contractors with scheduled home maintenance/repairs
  • Ensuring all work is done in a professional manner and meets household standards
  • Snow removal in the winter (some odd hours will be called for in snow season)

These gardens were originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and have been recently reconstructed with the original design and plants in mind. This is an opportunity to care for the plantings and work in a self-directed way to ensure these gardens continue and mature for generations. This is a formal household and the position is structured to be full time with consideration to the seasonal flow of tasks. The property is 7 acres of lawns and gardens and is oceanfront.

Responsibilities include:

  • Pruning – high level of pruning skills are required for both shrubs and fruit trees. Oversite of specimen tree pruning
  • Bed maintenance – gardener must personally weed, edge, deadhead, fertilize all garden beds. Please note, this is not a supervisory role, but a hands-on role.
  • Lawns and turf – gardener will take and maintain records of soil samples and determine the fertilizers and lawn treatments to maintain a healthy and beautiful lawn
  • Winterizing – gardener will personally winterize plantings and remove any debris or broken limbs from planting areas during the winter.
